I think they found some kind of microbial or bacterial life out there somewhere, prob on Mars.

nope, I bet they observed some combination of chemicals on a planet/moon that could be produced by some bacterial activity )

What I understand from the news report I heard on the radio this morning is that they found some bacteria here on earth from which they suspect it can easily survive and probably exists on other planets...

Brings new reason to think that the "blue-print for life" is present in everything around us. Makes humanoid aliens somewhat more likely than previously thought imo.

Panspermia is good theory too but it doesn't explain the origin of that life... what was the source?
If life is somehow "programmed" into all we see, I don't think that it's weird, regardless of the circumstances on other planets, that humanoid life is the basic form for sentient beings...
