My late father used to warn me not to spend too much energy on the UFO subject because he felt exactly like you. Even if I continued my search throughout the years I've always tried to keep in mind the point of view of my father.

Mmmm, that smells of an ancient, human paradigm of biblical proportions.

I was brought up in a Catholic family, believing in God and the Devil are hardly earth shattering paradigms to be confronted with. It's not my place to speak on her behalf but Carol is entitled to her beliefs - although she hardly comes across as one of those two stops from Dagenham religious types, or a biblical literalist.

God/Devil Ying/Yang Positive/Negative, again all interpretation. To me they all have some value and some pitfalls.

Thanks Roadghost, maybe in the coming years those that talk of ufos will be seen as a tad goofy. The subject will either escalate into something else or go away altogether, but just look how its managed to change right before our eyes.

They might be goofy, but pretty smart too.

Not earth shattering perhaps but certainly so influential they have caused many problems over the millenia that possibly could have been avoided.
What value do you specifically see in these various religious myths and beliefs?

But Wu a lot of things have been influential and caused problems for humanity, not just religions. You can't place religion in some kind of historical vacuum and make it the bogeyman. IMO religion was usually co-opted and used as a convenient hook to hang more selfish agendas on.

Too many to go into, but we certainly derived a lot of our morals, mores, social/cultural cohesion, knowledge, science etc. I'm not saying it's relevent now but it certainly guided us to where we are now in many cases.

Yes,,,many 'things' have caused problems but can you be a bit more specific?
IMHO we would have developed 'morals' and 'ethics' without religion. It's a human need for civilization and societies to develop. Indeed many religions have poor morals and ethics especially in the past. Religions routinely murdered in the name of God...and still do.
Start a thread somewhere on why you defend organized religion and lets see where it goes.

Good idea....we need a thread devoted to religion as it applies to our development.
