Default The Foo Fighter UFOs

Ancient Aliens (excerpt): Foo-Fighters & UFOs in World War II

For those who are not familiar with the foo fighter ufos:
Quote:
The term foo fighter was used by Allied aircraft pilots in World War II to describe various UFOs or mysterious aerial phenomena seen in the skies over both the European and Pacific Theater of Operations.
Though "foo fighter" initially described a type of UFO reported and named by the U.S. 415th Night Fighter Squadron, the term was also commonly used to mean any UFO sighting from that period.
Formally reported from November 1944 onwards, witnesses often assumed that the foo fighters were secret weapons employed by the enemy, but they remained unidentified post-war and were reported by both Allied and Axis forces.

Quote:
Every student of the history of UFOs knows of the phenomenon seen during WWII and known as foo-fighters, kraut fireballs or a variety of other names. Basically they were balls of light which followed and hovered around `planes of all nationalities both in daylight and after dark.

Interesting how both sides reported the same thing...

I have never been very interested in the so-called foo fighters. Since they were seen mostly as balls of light and occurred in the past primarily it's difficult to really explore this mystery now. When I first read about them many years back my first thought was that they were St Elmos fire or some form of ball lightning or plasma.

Kraut Fireballs?

Is that real? I mean, are there any primary sources for that? (Newspaper articles, etc.)

Interesting subject, Jurgen. I haven't given it much thought, but saw quite a few aerial photos of WWII planes with weird spheres/disks in tow over the years.

Why so close, why be there at all with us humans busy killing, torturing, bombing or dying and suffering depending on your position in relation to all these weapons.

I wonder if some ET engage us closely when we do the mass death thing. Monitoring our soldiers/flightcrews close up, to figure out why they kill enemies, risk their own lives and often actually die fighting wars.

Alternatively these could be ET sadists, taking pleasure/spiritual sustenance in our cruel/mindless/murderous behaviors, and the terrible suffering caused.

Or they somehow started WWII, and managed it hands on, flying in with participating armies and air forces.

IMO, this is a perfect example of a few individuals trying to make something out of <nothing>! A blob of light on an old photo is <nothing> until someone suggests it's <something> other than just a blob of light, probably due to the many photographic anomalies of the day! This is what happens when 'modern ufology' looks at something through fantasy glasses!!

I think some of the objects witnessed during that time period were probes and not manned craft. I wouldn't doubt that aliens were shooting a documentary about human savage savagery with flying cameras.

Sure. See here, for instance: http://www.project1947.com/articles/index.html#foo

Andy Roberts, in the piece entitled "Foo Fighters: The Story Thus Far" makes mention of the fact that some UFOlogists like to think there must have been a big joint investigation of this on the US/UK side, at least; but he doesn't think so and neither do I. British technical intelligence was dominated by Reginald Victor Jones, the prototypical UFO debunker. He had no use for what he called "scares" and in his account of his WWII service, published in the US as _Most Secret War_, he wrote: "We had already seen scares arise during the war by the imagination of men interpreting fearfully observations which had a natural origin . . . our own bomber crews had reported single-engine nightfighters with yellow lights in their noses at times when we knew that no single-engine nightfighters were flying." Well, if there were no nightfighters, what were the aircrew seeing? Jones seems to have been firmly convinced that they weren't seeing anything. And if they were seeing something, he didn't care what it was.

It may be worth noting further that back then piston engines produced reddish or yellowish flame at their exhausts, and the eyes of aircrew flying in combat at night would have been drawn to anything that might be such an exhaust.

There was a book published recently about the foo fighter phenomenon called Strange Company. It got good reviews from the usual UFO book reviewers but I found it boring and ended up skimming it.

I don't doubt that air crews on both sides were seeing strange lights but I tend to think that it was some kind of plasma phenomenon. The only problem with that theory - why aren't air crews reporting foo fighters today (or are they)?
