Default maury island incident

Maury Island is a very interesting case - not so much for all the alleged UFO stuff but more for all the weird happenings that followed. I think it was pretty clearly a hoax but one that seemed to take on a life of its own after a while. Fowler may have started the ball rolling but even he could never have imagined how tangled and tragic the web would ultimately become. The real question is whether Arnold was in on the hoax or if he was an innocent dupe. If he was in on it, that would certainly call into question his seminal June 24, 1947 sighting.

I don't think Fowler or Arnold were involved in the event . From what I read in Pilkingtons book it was probably a joint effort by the 'witness' and Crisman.
Arnold was sent in afrer the fact.

I hope Pilkington's right, Doc. I always had the impression that Arnold was a pretty straight shooter. I'd hate if we had to rethink his position in UFO history.

Arnold was only there because Ray Palmer sent him, so I doubt he was "in on" anything.

However, I'm not sure when Arnold's relationship with Palmer began. If it was anytime prior to June 24, 1947 (even so much as writing a letter to Amazing Stories), then you might be on to something.
