Default The Dangers of Ufology?

Here is an interesting article I found cruising the web.

http://www.rense.com/general64/liquid.htm

This article makes me rethink how far down the UFO phenomenon rabbit hole, I dare tread!

Friedman, Randle and Jacobs etc were never touched even after many years. Why some and not others?

Default The Dangers of Ufology?

If you want the non-Rense version of the article, and you should, Rense is a horrible site for other reasons, it can be found at: http://www.metatech.org/ufo_research..._evidence.html

The 1997 article doesn't mention the recent cluster of deaths we discussed at Dept 47 awhile back. Perhaps Skep has that old thread archived?

The deaths are intriguing in some cases, quite mundane in others, but I'm not convinced of the government conspiracy accusations involving UFO researcher's deaths. That's part of popular culture but very few deaths due to medical causes are really that mysterious.

I don't believe the government is poisoning or irradiating Ufologists left and right any more than I believe they know the truth about UFO's and are refusing us the holy grail of disclosure.

I do believe the government has used people in MK Ultra experiments that led to LSD induced deaths during the Cold War, just as marching soldiers through radioactive H-Bomb test areas induced cancer years later. The evidence for that is quite available, but a deadly vendetta against Ufologists does not have that level of evidence. Keep in mind that we have reason to be paranoid, but not all paranoia is justified.

We must believe two impossible things if the ETH worldview involving murderous conspiracies is correct. The first is that the extremely powerful aliens (who can walk through walls) are inept enough to crash their saucers but still let us have their crashed saucers after wards. The second is that our government, so inept in nearly every other way, is powerful enough to maintain a decades old conspiracy while copying Murder Inc.

The whole X-Files style alien coverup and invasion just doesn't make sense. The only cluster of deaths that is interesting is that of the Marconi scientists over such a short period. That should be investigated.

My suspicion is that the deaths, especially the suicides, and other too young deaths with no cause attributed (like Mac Tonnies recently) are not conspiracy related but preternatural.

John A. Keel advised parents to not let their teens get involved in investigating UFO's. Like other occult phenomena, it opens percipients up to forces which are even more antagonistic to humanity than the reported EBE grey and reptilians. Investigators eventually become percipients and experience things that they can't account for.

Paranormal activity occurs in the wake of UFO sightings and investigations. I'm not even certain that skeptics are immune to the effects. I'd say the only protection is strong religious faith, and I'd still like to see studies of whether prayers in other religions end abduction experiences.

Default The Dangers of Ufology?

Unfortunately, I can't get my hands on that thread. We did go through a period in 2008-2009 when a significant number of people involved with UFO and paranormal research passed away in fairly rapid succession. Part of that was due to the fact that the first generation of investigators (e.g. John Keel and Dick Hall) was getting really old. Young guys like Mac Tonnies were more of a shock.

I don't think there is anything particularly sinister about the cluster of deaths, however. A statistician would tell you that it's probably not that rare within any given segment of a population.

I do think there is some danger in getting involved with UFOlogy but I think the danger lies in a person getting carried away with his or her own beliefs. Keel suggested that the phenomenon zeroes in on the weak, but I think it is the opposite - that it is the weak who start seeing aliens under every bush. It is the lack of balance that could eventually lead to social and even psychological problems.

Is the cause of Mac Toonies death a closely guarded secret? Why is it no one is discussing his death or the cause, does anyone know?

Paul Kimball said it was due to an undiagnosed heart ailment, Carol. No big secret there.

The major difference between those "liquidated" (well known and lesser known) and the high-profile ufologists who have never been bothered is pretty simple; Those in the latter group 'know' that UFOs are from outer space, while many in the the liquidated group had some other theories.
