A weapons expert who worked with Dr David Kelly at the Government’s secret chemical warfare laboratory has been found dead in an apparent suicide.

In circumstances strongly reminiscent of Dr Kelly’s own mysterious death nine years ago, the body of Dr Richard Holmes was discovered in a field four miles from the Porton Down defence establishment in Wiltshire. It is not yet known how he died.

Mr Holmes, 48, had gone missing two days earlier after telling his wife he was going out for a walk – just as Dr Kelly did before he was found dead at an Oxfordshire beauty spot in July 2003.

This just reminded me how fond I am of British government, and supportive of all their policies, Martin. It goes without saying no government official ever lies there, in particular concerning let's say reasons for going to war with Iraq, or weapons of mass destruction, nor has there been any sexing up of intelligence. And to be careful on walks.

Well it must be a conspiracy...I mean afrer all if I were the defense agency trying to cover uo something I would kill him and then dump his body only 4 miles from a defense site bringing attention to the old case.

Arguably a nation state is a conspiracy, no additional one is required for it to act against enemies of the state. (I have no knowledge of either Kelly or the person in OP having been assassinated, their deaths made to look like suicides, but the two men's passing appears respectively convenient for Britain's pro-Iraqwar gov, and too much of a coincidence.)

Like doctor Hannibal Lecter, modern states if at all feasible will on occasion eat the rude...

Preposterous prepositions indeed: deciding to kill after 9 year delay and 'dump' the body, doctor. Prepositions enthusiastically rejected AND made by your good self.

More parsimoneous would be this person actually having mental issues, and truly taking his life on a bleak moment. Or fatally tripping over a hedgehog.

But OP at least suggests the possibility of the sinister here. If foul play, similar to the speculative elimination of dr. Kelly (who WAS a pain in the buttocks to the Brits rallying for attacking Iraq!), a realistic scenario would be that Kelly's friend had held on to information (provided by Kelly?) considered a threat to British national security. 'They' indeed kept tabs on him, and (for example) when he made appointments with editors of two major newspapers, after careful deliberation (days, not nine years) since Brit Intelligence is no bunch of sociopaths, killing only as a last resort, they happened to cross paths on target's customary walk, sprayed him with some state-of-the-art toxin, causing either a 'natural' death (heart arrest) or created a suicide scene of sorts. No dumping of no bodies , dr wu. Might serve to remind us not to mess with the professionals.

Anything is possible but imo it's unlikely he would be killed 9 years later when no one anymore really cares about the Iraq debacle.
But then if one is conspiracy minded like someone I know, it's manna to them.

Last time I looked they have no icbm's at all.
So they can't attack anyone except for nearby nations.

Yeah i know, it would be just an excuse for us to invade them. Personally i think Israel will do the business in the next 12 months. That's why the Israel elections were brought forward.
