That's what Hollywood does, Martin. If one movie makes money, producers will do the genre to death until they can't make a buck on it. The only one I wanted to see was Cowboys Vs Aliens and, of course, it came and went from the theaters before I had a chance to see it.
I think it's gotten particularly bad because producers are so enamored with CGI. Essentially anything that can be imagined can now be created in a computer and at a reasonable price. There is always that drive to create something no one has ever seem before so that usually means creatures and catastrophes.
