I might have used a couple of the words you used to explain to you, but I was not quoting you, otherwise, I would have used "quote marks". I'm not immune to backing down and avoiding conflict at work, but when it comes to horrendous crimes, I truly believe I would have a completely different behavior (one I know more about than you lol).

Mom and Dad and one son of the Shafia family, living in Kingston, Ontario - Canada, have been found guilty of committing an honor killing on three teenage daughters and I believe an aunt. The motive apparently was the girls' western dress and life-style, even with dating and possible boyfriends. This dishonor could only be expunged, and thus family honor regained, by killing their daughters, and the woman who stood by them.


Judge Robert Maranger was unmoved, saying the evidence clearly supported their conviction for "the planned and deliberate murder of four members of your family."

"It is difficult to conceive of a more despicable, more heinous crime ... the apparent reason behind these cold-blooded, shameful murders was that the four completely innocent victims offended your completely twisted concept of honor ... that has absolutely no place in any civilized society."

Female circumcision (a mislabel for often violent, crude and unhygienic cutting of labia and clitoris of very young girls) is a whole other subject, BSM, although the practice has in common with Honor Killing the targeting of girls with horrific violence.

ET? I suppose any decent alien with common sense would wonder if we are evil crazy people. But nasty aliens could be a different story: they might consider taking this NICE planet off our hands (Earth is wasted on us), or treat it as a safari-park, hunt themselves a mouthwatering fry-up breakfast ! Simply, our worst caveman antics could make us attractive to the wrong crowd of ET imo.

I don't have a 'big' solution, but naming and shaming and PROSECUTING the buzzards who commit brutalities against children (under cover of tradition) seems like a good place to start.

I disagree....... As I've always said: for every one bad sickening thing we hear about, there's tens of thousands of nice caring human acts happening every day... It's just we never hear of them. Most people on this planet want to live in peace & raise their children to show respect to others...

Perhaps easy to say when born a male in 20th century United Kingdom, dej. Just imagine starting out female in Taliban heartland Afghanistan (any era!) and having to depend on the guys in your fam, zero western education, a splattering of Holy Q'uran, who will judge if you may consult a physician, leave the house, go to school, who you will marry, how you will dress (=covered), and how you will be caned/killed over offending Allah, family honor, due to HAVING BEEN RAPED (punishable 'offense' equal to adultery), or merely growing older and annoying to your husband, who will find a pretext to murder or maim you with acid, so he can marry a younger wife.

Women in traditional lands often don't have to watch the BBC News to see crappy events unfolding. They're living neck-deep in the stuff.
