Default Quran Burning: There Be Idiots Here

Time to finetune my speculations about Kandahar shooter Robert Bales. The defense position seems to move toward A Good Man who suffered war trauma and (ignored) braindamage, who snapped and did some bad things: 'Diminished Capacity'.

But apparently just prior to joining the military mr. Bales defrauded retiree Gary Liebschner of Carroll, Ohio out of all his savings.

"Financial regulators found that Bales "engaged in fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, churning, unauthorized trading and unsuitable investments," according to a report on Bales filed in 2003."

That's when Robert Bales enlisted, leaving the elderly Ohio couple, seeking compensation and justice (Bales had been ordered to repay them $1,274,000!) scratching their heads as to his whereabouts. Yes, it was Iraq and Afghanistan, worked about as well as getting abducted into outer space.

This is not good guy who lost his marbles stuff imo. These actions show an intelligent, organized mindset, coupled with a disfunctional conscience. Given the opportunity, he very deliberately cheated some old folks out of their money, leaving them effectively penniless, then avoided any penalties by turning soldier. The consistent pattern here could be he lost his temper over the deaths and severe injuries to his army friends, saw the opportunity to get even (he had a gun, an expert at killing), left and returned to his base TWICE, to visit very deliberate revenge on 3 or 4 widely separate homes, killing 17, including four women and nine children, stopping to incinerate some of the bodies. Must have noticed some of those shot/stabbed were not adult males, but females / kids. Yet he did not stop, kept it together so having completed his 'mission' he made sure to make his way back to camp, to Diplomatic Immunity (assured trial under US law), even seen moving in a prone position, so to avoid getting fired on by any Afghan or American searchparties.

This may not be the fault of the US army after all, or of the horrors of war. Robert Bales may be 'Ruthless People", someone who does bad things repeatedly wherever he goes, no worries, except to make sure penalties are avoided.
