UFO Over Los Angeles 8-28-10

Me and my girlfriend were driving down Riverside Dr. in sherman oaks, Ca @ 9:20pm and she pointed out these lights in the sky over the hill, south of us, which would have been over los angeles. the lights were spinning fast, and the angle that they were at was like a slanted angle. at first the lights looked like it was going away, then it started getting closer and did a crazy turn to the west. the lights were spinning very fast. and it looked as if there was several rows of lights. like a scrolling marquee.

there was a red light flashing with the object that i saw when i stopped the car in the middle of the street to look. it kinda looked like a helicopters red light flashing, like a beacon, i am not sure. usually i see that light on regular flying aircrafts. but this thing had lights, rows of lights, at this wierd slanted angle and the lights were rolling.

the object, like i said, at first was going away from us, heading south, then it came back over the hill and it looked like it started following the 101 freeway westward.

i went home to get my camera and tried to find it but it was gone. i couldnt see it anywhere. i drove all the way to santa monica beach to se if i can catch it again. there had to have been people that saw these lights. it was a crazy, round object with lights all around it, rotating lights. i swear i wouldve thought it was a movie being filmed for a space ship.

any stories on this online that have been reported? i cant find any.

GoTTi, welcome to this forum.
Have you checked to see if there was any displays going on over LA? Maybe a light show, or even hot air balloons on this date? Could it have been a blimp, maybe over a sporting event?
If as you say, it was over LA, then doubtless others would have seen it, and yet you have found no report anywhere, so maybe it is because it was part of one of my suggestions that I just mentioned. No-one would report something if they knew it was man made.

I can offer you a possible explanation because a very similar report was made by someone here in the Phoenix, AZ area a few weeks ago. Actually you gave a few clues in your post that point to something specific.

This is just an educated guess on my part based on the "similar report" I mentioned. What you most likely witnessed was a conventional aircraft with a illuminated, scrolling advertising banner mounted underneath it. These types of scrolling banners can be on a straight frame or on a circular frame and they can be mounted to various types of aircraft. When viewed from the side or at an angle you can't read the message, all you see are weird pulsating/rolling lights. One of the best clues you gave as to what you might have seen is you said, "It looked like it started following the 101 freeway westward." These types of advertising aircraft will often follow freeways and major roads to give maximum exposure to the message they are displaying.
I have a friend at work who saw the object reported here a few days after the initial report. He told me at first he thought they were seeing a legitimate weird craft (UFO). The object was at a distance from them but turned and flew right over them as they were driving down the freeway. the only even i knew of going on was a sunset strip block party. very large party. and from the position of the lights over the hill it might have been over that area of sunset.

i couldnt tell if it was scrolling a message under the object. all i could see was the angle it was at. a slanted angle, kinda going top left to bottom right. thats how the lights were positioned. as if it was turning. but this thing was moving away from us, then started coming at us. i dont know if it was actually over the freeway, but the 101 freeway runs east/west, and it started heading west bound.

that red light is the only thing i saw that made it out to be a actual plane or something non ufo. other than that flashing red light i couldnt see anything else but the lights spinning around this angle. rows of lights. i cant tell if they would be similar to what those planes do with night advertising in the sky, because of the way it was flying on that angle. i can say the lights were not just scrolling. there was stationary lights as well on top and bottom of the angle. white lights. then this scrolling light pattern around it.

damn i wish i had video if it. someone in los angeles has to have it.

I'm in the LA/Burbank area and there was one of those planes with the scrolling messages underneath flying around during that time last night. The only word I was able to make out was "tomorrow". I'm sorry that I don't know more of 'the message' but I hope that this clears up some of the confusion for you. Sorry I don't have any video of it.

i just joined this forum as well, and i saw the exact same thing you saw. i was in sherman oaks, i dont remember what time but as soon as i saw that craft in the sky i was trippin out. it was, like you said, rotating and slanted which really caught my attention. and it seemed very large. it also seemed to be traveling east going farther from me then it turned west, and before i knew it it was gone. i found this video on youtube about it, im not sure but it looks like the same thing we saw and this is over LA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NzNiKr6NFE

ya i saw that video. that wasnt it. not even close. this thing we all saw had lights rotating around it, and it was slanted. from my angel, in the valley, i was lookin at it and it was top let down to the right. and at first i saw this **** move away towards hollywood, and then i saw it come closer to me and start moving west, like following the 101. i stopped my car and was lookin close and i could see a red light on it, like one of those identifier lights planes have on them or cop copters have or something. i saw that red light, but i couldnt see anything else. it was so dark. just lights moving all over it, in a rotating down to up motion.

it happened @ 920pm. i called 911 when it happened so i have the time logged on my phone. tonight we went to fashion square mall, and parked on the top parking lot to see if we can see something again. but nothing.

with those planes that write the advertsing, i dont think it can be that. these lights wrapped around the entire thing and i dont see the planes duplicating that. only shows the ads underneath the plan. these lights wrapped it.

well ya i kno we saw the same thing, you described it better than me, and ur right that isnt the video, the original video was from may 2010 on that i found out like 5 minutes ago. and i saw that red light on it as well. but i was about to call 911, i felt like they wouldv gotten mad at me for calling them, what did they say?

the first person connected me to non emergency. then i was telling the dispatch where it was going n ****. then i started laughing cuz i couldnt believe what i was seeing. that it was moving west. thats when i saw the red light, so i was like...no way could this be a plane. but all i kept seeing was the lights rotating around the thing. so i was trying to focus for a blimp outline, or a plan outline or trying to see propellers or even hear it, and nothing. just lights moving around it.

so the cops were like ok i will dispatch this through, do you want to leave your name and number or be anonymous and i said anonymous is ok thanks. that was the call....

we just went over to fashion square also, to see if we can see it again tonight. and nothing. i parked ontop of the parking lot and waited, and nothing came. there was the sunset festival show lastnight, so i was thinking maybe it was something for that show, like the lights on the bottom for those advertising planes, but i just keep seeing the way the lights were circling the thing and i just dont see it possible for the planes to do that, especially in the angle it was in
