If their intent is to stop human governments from causing all life on the planet to become extinct with unconventional warfare at a time when they know it's about to happen they'd be classified as hostile by our governments despite benevolent intentions. Even if they attack military targets there's enough grey area in their possible motive to not jump to conclusions. In my opinion man's greatest threat is from man, aliens aren't pointing nuclear weapons at everyone and everything on the planet.

Enough to warrant a military response by ourselves?

There's no effective way our Type 0 civilization can handle a Type 3 civilization militarily. Even if all of the world's governments join forces it would be an exercise in futility.
