UFO Sighting Over Sydney

IT EMERGED from a blazing light in the clouds, descending on a busy street before zipping off silently into the sunset.

Just what - or who - propelled the strange flying disc across Sydney's skyline may never be known.

But while the close encounter was over in seconds, it was enough to convince mother-of-two Fiona Hartigan that she'd just seen a UFO.
And she has the photos to prove it.

Ms Hartigan yesterday said she had just got out of her car on Sunday evening to snap a few sunset photos when the amazing events began.

"As I was about to take the picture this black object appeared and then it started to move," she said.

"It started off about 800m away but it came closer - to about 400m - and then two other little round things appeared from this bright orange light above.

"There was no noise. It was calm and peaceful but it was very weird."

Ms Hartigan said the main UFO then shot off above Governor Macquarie Drive at Chipping Norton, with the smaller UFOs zipping away in the opposite direction.

"I don't know how to explain it - I'm still totally bewildered," she said.
To the sceptic, Ms Hartigan's photo might show a speck of dust on the lens or something small floating in the air close to the camera.

But close encounters like Ms Hartigan's came as no surprise to UFO Research NSW spokesman Doug Moffett:

"It could be some electrical anomaly that no one has ever seen, it could be an extra-terrestrial craft, it could be something else," he said.

"There does appear to be a blur around the image, which could just be the way it's shaped, or - and this is pure speculation - it could be due to its propulsion system.

"Whatever the case, it's an opportunity to learn something new."

Mr Moffett said there were between 1000 and 1500 UFO sightings in Australia every year, "but that is just the tip of the iceberg".

"Why would anyone make these stories up? They are setting themselves up for ridicule," he said.

You know, some of these sightings make me wonder what I would do if I were out in the wilderness, and felt that nobody else was there to be a witness. For example, if you had a good photo or video and a piece of hard evidence, like an instrument left behind by 'visitors', do you tell authorities, or anyone else for that matter.
It makes me think that somewhere there are ordinary folks who may be in possession of vital clues or evidence of an intelligence behind this ufo phenomenon who are simply too intimidated to come forward for fear of being hushed up by mibs and ridiculed for the rest of their lives by their neighbours.

thats a good question Mac50 ,just what could we do with evidence of any kind.Look at what happens to pilots,theve got to make out a report by hand then turn it into the FAA,then there left to wonder about it for the rest of their lives.Look what happend to Col.Halt.of Rendlesham Forest fame.He wrote out a report turned in the photos they had taken and some thirty years later hes never heard one word back and he lost his evidence.I say bury it,find a spot in the backyard put it in a safe tin and bury it.Now shhh,dont tell anyone I toldja K?

Well, considering what happens when the government wants income tax, I wouldn't want them chasing me for my alien widget. The hardest part of dealing with hard evidence I think, would be keeping it secret while trying to 'leak' it out to someone or some group in a way that would be convincing. Also, one might be tempted by the possibility of fame or money, but would it be worth the disruption to one's life ?

It also shows how some of these pics come about. She said she stopped to take pics of the sunset....which as we can see WAS very pretty.
Most people do not run around with a camera in hand ....just in case they see a ufo!!!
Many times the ufo doesn't hang around long enough to run and get your camera...and who would be willing to leave anyway?? Most people would be too in awe by what they are seeing to want to take their eyes off it to go grab a camera!!
So, when we do get pics like this one....it was due to pure luck that day.

One of the best scenes in the history of cinema. Great tension and excitement and it's just a bunch of guys huddling over a radar screen and voices on the radio.

There's actually a deleted scene, where AE31 lands and the authorities enter the plane to grill the passengers and crew. Maybe it's on YouTube. I'll have a look.

WOW!!!!!!!! T H A N K S A L O T !! Never ever seen this scene before. I just bought the 30th anniversary box set. Did not check it entirely. Maybe it's there too.

And I totally agree with you: the Indianapolis Air Traffic Control scene is a pure jewel. They must have hired professional air controllers.
