Ok from what I've read so far and looked at myself the guy was a seemingly legitimate and on his personal history and career he was on the level. His outlandish claims (that obviously cannot be verified) leave me scratching my head. I'm sure he's making it all up but why? What was his agenda?

I guess I'm on the same page as you on this one.
He was an Army intel officer for many years during several conflicts over seas and afterword at the Pentagon but for me his tale just doesn't ring true.
Two main problems for me are the fact that he claims they waited 10 years after Roswell before even deciding to do anything with the alien artifacts and the claim that Gen Trudeau personally picked him only to do this project of taking the pieces to various govt affiliated companies to reverse engineer the stuff. He had no help and no one to work with on this? Would any one actually give alien parts to a single individual? Why weren't they in the hands of the MJ 12 group which Corso claims existed? It simply doesn't make any sesne to me.
There are other things about the book that bother me too especially that he wrote actual diaogue into the story as if he actually remembered them verbatim and the fact that no one has ever come forward who knew him at the time to support any of his claims that he took these parts to various scientists for the govt.

Just doesn't add up does it so I'm left discounting him totally. Still can't imagine what motivated him to say the things he did?

Good question.....but I suppose one can ask that about many who have told and written elaborate alien tales with no proof either.

Some say it was his son Lee,that he wrote that book for his son,when it shot to the New York Times bestsellers list he made a ton of money off of it.

That at least makes perfect sense and why Phil Corso senior seemed to repeat stuff as if rehearsed. So, he was just a sick old man manipulated by his son?

Doesn't Corso's son go around claiming that the "Roswell craft" was piloted by engineered creatures from our own future?

So which is? ET, or man-made creatures from the future?

You know what father and son both have in common? They say a lot of fantastic things and neither has a shred of evidence for any of it.

I bought and read that book twice,the criticism Ive read about this particular book was Corso got dates wrong.Thats understandable since its the easiest thing of all to get wrong.

Soon after I read the book I returned it for a refund. Some of the stuff Corso claimed just didn't make sense to me. As for motivation, he could've just sensed a chance to make quick easy $ from this topic.
