Look...I've read tons of ufo books and this is simply a non issue and to base an assumption on a film....really?

Ah Wu, have you ever known me to make things up? Check out this excerpt from Project Blue Book's 701 'Category Unknown' files, the 1959 Levelland Texas sightings:

"Sheriff Weir Clem and Deputy Pat McColloch drove along Route 116 searching for the glowing object when finally, at 1:30 a.m., they spotted an enormous, egg-shaped craft that looked "like a brilliant red sunset across the highway," according to Clem. It "lit up the whole pavement in front of us for about two seconds," he said, and then it disappeared. Throughout the night, the Levelland police department continued to receive calls describing a similar bright object that caused lights to dim and car engines to shut off."

If you have time to skim through these numerous, and highly consistent reports, you will find they read like the very hard-core UFOlogy used by Spielberg for his CE3rdK script! It's all there, baffled witnesses on deserted roads, engines switching off, you name it (including a red luminous UFO!). What was edited in was possibly the huge 'mothership' confronted in final scenes, however that UFOs appear together in various sizes/roles, with some shining red light is a non-issue. Of course they do.

I see no 'little red light'....little red light being the operative words.
Why are we even wasting time on this?

Because it's our favorite waste of time perhaps ? With due respect, you are not thinking straight, dr wu23. The objective aspects of topic question (please take note of question mark at end!!) is whether there's basis in reality for reporting (or movie portray) of luminous red UFOs.

(Anything may appear "little" relative to something bigger, like a presumptive visually larger accompanying UFO, like the fictional mothership in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, or in the photos I linked/uploaded in Reply # 20. If you insist on red UFOs to become smaller, I recommend you imagine yourself a little further away, or compare them to the Sun? This makes about as much sense as determining whether you are a 'big' or 'little' optometrist, good doctor !)

But the linked excerpt to the Levelland-Texas sightings shows this type of UFOs has been recorded (by Proj Blue Book), and with Hynek consulting may have formed a real basis for Steven Spielberg's inclusion, and added is that Project Red Light once was a hotly whispered buzzword among UFO researchers: Spielberg may have cleverly inserted the red UFO-light as metaphor.

All of the above answers to Carol's question.

Interesting post but it has nothing to do with the topic carol started.
Her exact quote from the very first post:
" that damnable little red light is often included. So whats with that,Has anyone ever read of its being referred to at all? It was in front of that ufo but often Ive seen dramatizations whereby its actually in back of a ufo.Does it help to guide the ufo? "
Again the key words were 'little red light'... It seems you are misreading not moi. We are not talking about red ufos here but little red lights....
I hope that helps your ...confusion.

Now quit wasting everyone's time.

Thank you for helping me with my many confusions, Wu ! I certainly have no wish to waste your time, then again here we are, both of us posting enthusiastically about distinguishing red UFOs from "little red lights", and fine points such as these.

Like, you seem to miss the point of that damnable little question mark ending Carol's topic QUESTION. Since my comments on the quality of 'being little' ANSWER directly to a part of that question, they do not reflect on misreading at all, by anyone, but simply are relevant. As answers should be.

Again, being 'little' for an object, a light in the sky, or a UFO is a highly relative condition (as compared to anything larger or smaller). Not much meaningful can be said about little lights, people, elephants, suns or galaxies (except that you can think of bigger ones?). Do you understand my point about relativity?

I've shown red lit up UFOs, as well as UFO lore concerning Project Red Light have been reported, in previous posts, so that's kinda my position on what's with that little red light. (I seriously hope I'm not wasting your time, again.... .)

Where I come from, a red light means "stop." So, in regard to this thread, perhaps you should all take the aliens' hint and stop.

FYI, the Levelland incidents occurred in November of 1957, not 1959.

You can see red lights on the back of most vehicles -- why do we use red tail lights on the back of our vehicles and not blue tail lights?

The eye is most sensitive to a greenish yellow wavelength so red is used for traditional reasons probably but it has nothing to do with space aliens since they might not even see color the way we do being non human.
And I have always thought that even having lights on an 'alien' saucer is silly to begin with since with infrared ,etc one does not even need them.
And one would think they would not want to be seen in the first place.
None of the arguments I have heard for why 'aliens' often have running lights make any sense to me.

Perhaps we should stop trying to find a practical reason for them and consider that they may be trying to make some kind of statement.
